A Way to Justice was filmed at the 2009 MenEngage Africa Symposium held in Johannesburg and follows the stories of men and women active in efforts to achieve gender transformation. It's well worth watching.

This document will be known as the White Paper Document from the government to Stortinget (Parliament) on male roles and gender equality.
An important purpose of this report is to gather factual materials and data on men and male roles. The material shows clearly that there are great social differences between groups of men, and that there is good reason to use the term “the extreme gender” when referring to men. Men make up both the upper echelons and the lower strata of society. They are over-represented in the power forum, and yet they also top the statistics for violence, criminality and suicide. Eight out of ten pupils with serious behavioural problems in schools are boys.

Working with men and boys to end violence against women and girls is essential. This module provides guidance on how to engage men and boys drawing on the knowledge of experts and on existing programmes that work. It walks you through the programming cycle giving step-by-step guidance with illustrative case studies and links to tools and other resources.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss men’s possible relationships to this process of transformative change by exploring the meanings and uses of ‘masculinity’. Discussions of masculinity provide a place in which men’s involvement in producing and challenging inequalities and inequities in gender and other social relations can be investigated. Masculinity renders gender visible to and for men. Understanding the definitions and discourses surrounding masculinity can help in the analysis of how political, economic and cultural inequalities are produced and distributed not only between but also within the genders. Above all, an inquiry in to the ‘politics of masculinity’ offers an opportunity to rethink men’s strategic interest in challenging the values and practices that create gender hierarchy.
