I work in Timor Leste, which is a new nation. We have been working with local men's organization as well as local communities in the rural areas in providing information on the men's role to reduce violence againist women. Because we are a very new country , we are learning and implementing as we go. Timoree men like in all traditional society are brought up with the idea to be strong and be the head of the household. These values often leads Timorese men to be violence towards women and towards other men. What we are trying to dois to find ways to discuss the issue of how Timorese men can reduce violence against women and violence in general. It is all new to us but we are learning and developing and slowing educating the men in Timor leste to make the change, to end vioelnce against women, to stop using violence to resolve problems.
