Masculinity Matters: Men, Gender-Based Violence and the AIDS Epidemic in Papua New Guinea

This chapter examines the gendered dimensions of the dual epidemics of violence and HIV in Papua New Guinea, in particular the role of men and negative masculinities. The chapter argues for the need for a primary prevention approach and criticises some efforts to reform men, suggesting that they reinscribe negative masculinities.
