African Region

In Africa, as throughout the world, gender inequality continues to undermine democracy, impede development and compromise people’s lives.

Africa has some of the world’s highest recorded or researched rates of domestic and sexual violence and is the epicenter of the global HIV pandemic. While a fair amount of work is being undertaken to address these issues, there is still an enormous amount to be done, especially in relation to the ways in which these two issues reinforce and exacerbate each other, and in terms of the role that men and boys can and should play.

The MenEngage Alliance has an active network within the African region, which includes a number of strong country networks of organisations working hard to engage men and boys in promoting gender justice and reducing the number of HIV infections.

The Africa pages on this community portal provide a space for men and women from across the region to share resources, information and experiences, engage each other in discussions and mobilise around common issues.
